Fejérvári Zoltán az elmúlt évek magyar zenei életének egyik legérdekesebb fiatal tehetsége. A 2017-es Montreali Zongoraverseny győztese, 2016-ban pedig a rangos Borletti-Buitoni Trust ösztöndíjban részesült. Európa- és Amerika-szerte olyan rangos hangversenytermekben adott szólóestet, mint a Carnegie Hall, Canada’s Place des Arts, a müncheni Gasteig, a torinói Lingotto, a valenciai Palau de Música, a Biblioteca Nacional Buenos Airesben vagy a budapesti Zeneakadémia.
Szólistaként számos zenekarral működött együtt, úgymint a Budapesti Fesztiválzenekar, a Nemzeti Filharmonikusok, a Verbier Kamarazenekar vagy a Concerto Budapest, és olyan kiváló karmesterekkel dolgozott együtt, mint Fischer Iván, Takács-Nagy Gábor, Kobayashi Ken-Ichiro, Mathias Bamert, Kensho Watanabe és Kocsis Zoltán. Fejérvári 2019 januárjában megjelent első Janáček-szólólemezét lelkesen fogadta a kritika, a Gramophone szerint „a legérzékenyebb és legelmélyültebb felvétel” a zeneszerző műveiből. Legutóbbi Schumann-felvétele az Atma Classique gondozásában jelent meg 2020 májusában, és ismét elismeréssel méltatta a Gramophone: „Fejérvári kivételesen elmélyült művész, aki egyszerre ötvözi hangszerének színeit a kifogástalan zeneiséggel. Akik még nem hallották őt játszani, ritka csemegére számíthatnak.”
A 2019-2020-as szezon egyszerre tartogatott kamarazenét, szólóestet és zenekari fellépéseket Fejérvári számára, öt évszázadnyi repertoárt átívelve. A koncertszezont a Santa Fe-i Kamarazene Fesztiválon kezdte egy szólóesttel, melyen Bartók, Jörg Widmann és Schumann műveit tolmácsolta, ezt kamarazenei koncertek követték. 2019 novemberében Fejérvári a washingtoni Performing Arts-ban debütált Janáček, Schubert és Chopin műveivel. Továbbá debütált a beaconi Howland Chamber Music Circle-ben, New Yorkban, a minnesotai Frederic Chopin Society-ban, a sanford-hilli zongorasorozat keretén belül a Western Washington Egyetemen és a Norfolk & Norwich Zenei Társaságban az Egyesült Királyságban.
Az elmúlt szezon bővelkedett zenekari fellépésekben, mint például Bartók 3. zongoraversenye a San Antonio és Winnipeg Szimfonikus Zenekarral, J.S. Bach d-moll és A-dúr zongoraversenye a Cseh Filharmonikusokkal, Dohnányi Variációk egy gyermekdalra című műve a Concerto Budapest közreműködésével, Keller András vezényletével, illetve Mozart no. 25-ös zongoraversenye Antal Mátyás vezényletével és a Miskolci Magyar Szimfonikus Zenekarral. Kamaramuzsikusként Fejérvári együttműködött az Elias Quartettel a liverpooli Filharmonikus Zenekar előadásán, illetve Diana Tishchenko hegedűművésszel Aix-en-Provance-ban és La Chaux-de-Fonds-ban. Továbbá vendége volt a brooklyni Kamarazene Fesztiválnak is.
Az elmúlt évadban olyan neves helyeken adott szólóestet, mint a Classical Spree, a montreali Szimfonikus Zenekar fesztiválja vagy a Luzerni Fesztivál, ahol mentora, Schiff András felkérésére játszott kortárs és barokk műveket. Fellépett továbbá a Gilmore Keyborad Fesztivál Rising Stars sorozatában és a Vancouver Előadóművészeti Központban, British Columbiában. Schiff András felkérésére részt vett a „Building Bridges” (Összekötő hidak) nevű sorozatában, ahol fiatal, különleges tehetségű zongoristák mutatkoznak be. Ennek köszönhetően Fejérvári a 2017-2018-as szezonban fellépett többek között Berlinben, Bochumban, Brüsszelben, Zürichben és Ittingenben. Olyan neves zenekarok vendége volt, mint a Budapesti Fesztiválzenekar: Fischer Iván vezényletével Beethoven op. 15-ös C-dúr zongoraversenyét adták elő Budapesten és Varsóban. A Zeneakadémián Fejérvári J.S. Bach BWV 1056-os f-moll zongoraversenyét és Sosztakovics op. 35-ös c-moll zongoraversenyét játszotta. Fejérvári többek között együtt játszott a Keller és Kodály Vonósnégyessel, Joseph Lin hegedűművésszel és Keller Andrással, Gary Hoffman, Christopher Richter, Ivan Moneghetti, Frans Helmerson és Steven Isserlis csellóművészekkel, valamint Radovan Vlatković kürtössel. Fejérvári rendszeres fellépője a kronbergi Chamber Music Connects the World programnak, a Prussia Cove’s Open Chamber Music-nak, a Lisztomaniának a franciaországi Châteauroux-ban, a Tiszadobi Zongorafesztiválnak és a spanyolországi Encuentro de Música de Santandernek. Mitsuko Uchida meghívására 2014 és 2016 nyarán részt vett a Marlborói Zenei Fesztiválon. Marlborói zenésztársaival Amerika-szerte turnézott a 2017-18-as és a 2018-19-es évadban.
Fejérvári első szólólemeze Janáček műveivel a Piano Classics gondozásában jelent meg 2019-ben. A CD-n többek között hallható a Benőtt ösvényeken, a Ködben és az 1905-ös zongoraszonáta. A 2013-as Liszt Malédiction Hungaroton-felvétele a Weiner-Szász Kamaraszimfonikusokkal a Grand Prix du Disque díjban részesült. Kállai Ernővel készített Mozart-felvétele szintén a Hungaroton lemezkiadónál jelent meg 2014-ben.
Zoltán Fejérvári is one of the most interesting young talents of the Hungarian music scene in recent years. Winner of the 2017 Montreal Piano Competition, he was awarded the prestigious Borletti-Buitoni Trust Scholarship in 2016. He has given recitals in prestigious concert halls throughout Europe and the Americas, such as Carnegie Hall, Canada’s Place des Arts, Gasteig in Munich, Lingotto in Turin, Palau de Música in Valencia, Biblioteca Nacional in Buenos Aires and the Liszt Academy in Budapest.
As a soloist, he has worked with orchestras such as the Budapest Festival Orchestra, the National Philharmonic Orchestra, the Verbier Chamber Orchestra and Concerto Budapest, and with such distinguished conductors as Iván Fischer, Gábor Takács-Nagy, Ken-Ichiro Kobayashi, Mathias Bamert, Kensho Watanabe and Zoltán Kocsis. Fejérvári’s debut Janáček solo album, released in January 2019, was enthusiastically received by critics, with Gramophone calling it “the most sensitive and profound recording” of the composer’s works. His most recent recording of Schumann was released by Atma Classique in May 2020, and was again praised by Gramophone. Those who have not heard him play will be in for a rare treat.”
The 2019-2020 season has included chamber music, recitals and orchestral performances for Fejérvári, spanning five centuries of repertoire. Fejérvári began the season with a recital at the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival, interpreting works by Bartók, Jörg Widmann and Schumann, followed by chamber music concerts. In November 2019, Fejérvári made his debut at Performing Arts in Washington, DC, performing works by Janáček, Schubert and Chopin. He has also made debuts with the Howland Chamber Music Circle in Beacon, New York, the Frederic Chopin Society in Minnesota, the Sanford Hill Piano Series at Western Washington University, and the Norfolk & Norwich Music Society in the UK.
This past season was rich in orchestral performances, including Bartók’s Piano Concerto No. 3 with the San Antonio and Winnipeg Symphony Orchestras, J.S. Bach’s Piano Concerto in D Minor and A Major with the Czech Philharmonic, Dohnányi’s Variations on a Children’s Song with Concerto Budapest conducted by András Keller, and Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 25 conducted by Mátyás Antal and the Hungarian Symphony Orchestra of Miskolc. As a chamber musician, Fejérvári has collaborated with the Elias Quartet on performances with the Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and with violinist Diana Tishchenko in Aix-en-Provance and La Chaux-de-Fonds. He was also a guest at the Brooklyn Chamber Music Festival.
In the past season, he has given recitals at prestigious venues such as Classical Spree, the Montreal Symphony Orchestra Festival and the Lucerne Festival, where he was commissioned by his mentor András Schiff to play contemporary and baroque works. He has also performed in the Rising Stars series at the Gilmore Keyborad Festival and at the Vancouver Centre for the Performing Arts in British Columbia. At the request of András Schiff, he participated in the “Building Bridges” series, which showcases young pianists of exceptional talent. As a result, Fejérvári has performed in Berlin, Bochum, Brussels, Zurich and Ittingen during the 2017-2018 season. He has been a guest of renowned orchestras such as the Budapest Festival Orchestra, which performed Beethoven’s Piano Concerto in C major, Op. 15, conducted by Iván Fischer in Budapest and Warsaw. At the Liszt Academy, Fejérvári performed Bach’s Piano Concerto in F minor, BWV 1056, and Shostakovich’s Piano Concerto in C minor, Op. 35, by J.S. Bach. Fejérvári has played with the Keller and Kodály String Quartet, violinist Joseph Lin and András Keller, cellists Gary Hoffman, Christopher Richter, Ivan Moneghetti, Frans Helmerson and Steven Isserlis, and horn player Radovan Vlatković, among others.
Fejérvári is a regular performer at the Chamber Music Connects the World programme in Kronberg, Prussia Cove’s Open Chamber Music, the Lisztomania in Châteauroux, France, the Tiszadob Piano Festival and the Encuentro de Música de Santander in Spain. At the invitation of Mitsuko Uchida, he participated in the Marlboro Music Festival in the summers of 2014 and 2016. He toured the Americas with his Marlboro-based ensemble in 2017-18 and 2018-19.
Fejérvári’s first solo album with works by Janáček was released in 2019 by Piano Classics. The CD features works such as In the Woven Paths, In the Mist and the Piano Sonata 1905. His 2013 Hungaroton recording of Liszt’s Malédiction with the Weiner-Szász Chamber Symphony Orchestra won the Grand Prix du Disque. His Mozart recording with Ernő Kállai was also released by Hungaroton in 2014.
