Fülöp Ránki

Biography

Fülöp Ránki was born in Budapest, Hungary. He started to play the piano by ear at the age of three. At the age of eight he was accepted to Pál Járdányi Music School, where he studied under Erika Becht. In his teens he was also tutored by Edit Hambalkó and then he entered the Franz Liszt Music Academy in Budapest. After studying with Jenő Jandó, István Lantos and Rita Wagner, he graduated with a master’s degree in 2018. Since 2021 he is a doctoral student and a piano teacher at the Academy.

He has performed in several countries in Europe and Asia, including solo recitals and chamber music concerts at La Folle Journée Festivals both in Nantes and Tokyo and at the Piano Festival de La Roque-d’Anthéron. He has regularly performed works for three pianos with his mother, Edit Klukon and his father, Dezső Ránki, including the concertos by Bach and Mozart and compositions by Barnabás Dukay written especially for their trio.

He has been a regular soloist for leading Hungarian orchestras (Hungarian National Philharmonic Orchestra, Concerto Budapest and Győr Philharmonic Orchestra among others). He has worked together with conductors like Heinz Holliger, András Keller, Zoltán Kocsis and Gilbert Varga. He has played the piano part of Des Canyons aux étoiles… by Messiaen at the Hungarian premiere of the piece.

He received Hungary’s Junior Prima Award in 2016 and Cziffra Festival Talent Award in 2017.
